I am a Lover of Virgin Coconut Oil

Virgin Coconut oil has anti bacterial and anti fungi properties. It is excellent not only as a nutritional supplement and an inmune system booster, but also to cover many of your cosmetic needs.

I use it constantly!

I take 3 teaspoons a day for weight control/loss. Taken 10 minutes or so before meals, gives you a satisfying feeling and you are not as hungry at the table, which logically helps you to eat less. It magically boosts your metabolism and instead of transforming into stored fat in your body --like most oils and butters do--, it burns your excess body fat!

Ingesting regularly has also many beneficial effects like: lowering thyroid problems, improving your cardiovascular system, getting rid of skin diseases, boosting your inmune system, etc.

Gargling with coconut oil disinfects your mouth, teeth and gums, promotes healing of gingivitis, stops the spread of cavities and takes away bad breath. There is no danger in swallowing it, actually it is recommended.

I recently found a recipe for making your own toothpaste --based on coconut oil-- and i thought it would make a wonderful Hub, as well as help a lot of people have better dental health.

Alternative to Fluoride

If you are concerned about the widely publicised negative effects that fluoride –almost always present in commercial toothpaste—could have on your health or on your family´s health, there are alternatives to consider. Some health shops sell natural toothpastes sweetened with Stevia and without fluoride or other dangerous chemicals. Nothing beats the beauty and excitement of producing your own products, knowing that you will give it your best try and that it will be superior to what you can purchase in the market.

Coconut Homemade Toothpaste

Mix equal parts of natural baking soda (without any additives) and coconut oil. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil, peppermint, cinnamon, etc.

If you don´t like the salty taste that baking soda gives your toothpaste, you can add some natural Estevia (in the form of powder or oil) for a sweeter flavour. Mix it well into a paste. It will look like the “real toothpaste” and be much more healthy, natural and beneficial for your teeth and gums. As the coconut oil kills germs, you can even dip in it your toothbrush and scrub your teeth gently with it, in circular motion. Keep your toothpaste on a small closed container, in the fridge or in your bathroom.

One tip, when rinsing your mouth from the oil toothpaste, make sure to run the hot water to rid the sink of any sticky oil that could end up plugging your pipes if left unattended for a long time.

This Natural Toothpaste can even make a nice present for loved ones if you put it in a nice looking little glass container, with a cute ribbon and your own handwritten label.

Happy teeth brushing! Cheers to those healthy teeth and gums!

And as you enjoy the pleasures of knowing you are doing your best for your teeth, why not research a bit more and find some natural home made recipes for shampoos, lotions, house cleaning, laundry soap, etc.?

Substitute Some of Your Beauty Products with Virgin Coconut Oil

It makes an excellent hair conditioner. I massage my scalp and hair lenghts with it once a week, leaving it on for over 2 hours and sometimes overnight. It gives my hair more volume, strength,  vitality and makes it look healthier and shinier.

Moisturizer, facial cream, body lotion and sunscreen in one! I use virgin coconut oil on my face and hands twice a day as a moisturizer/ cream. When i go outside it protects me against the harsh weather effects on my skin and sunburn.  I apply it on my face and neck before going to bed, to prevent wrinkles, as a night facial cream.  Once a week I apply it to all my body as a lotion and leave it on to be absorbed naturally by my skin. This makes my skin softer and healthier. My problems with dry skin and eczema are magically gone!

The only place I found out that coconut oil is not good to apply, is under the eyes or the contour of the eyes. Somehow that part of our face is more sensitive to fats and absorbs it deeply, causing some light irritation that disappears in a couple of hours. Avoid massaging the oil close to your eyes and you will be ok.

Excellent personal lubricant. As years pass by, we all know that things change in our bodies thru menopause and sometimes our sex life becomes dry and irritating. Using a little virgin coconut oil as a personal lubricant solves these inconveniences and boosts healthy benefits in your intimate area (and your partner´s as well).

Try giving your loved one a special treat by warming up a bit of coconut oil and applying it to his/her full body with a warm and sensual body massage. You will find out the wonderful results by yourself.

Search in youtube on The Dangers of Fluoride and Water Fluoridation, there is a lot of information online.

is there a difference between extra virgin coconut oil and virgin coconut oil and if yes, what is it?

Well, virgin coconut oil means just that: Virgin coconut oil. Meaning that it has not been refined and nothing has been added unto it. The "extra" is just a commercial bait. Just like there is no such thing as an "extra virgin" girl. Is either you are virgin or you are not.

Please, when you say equal parts of coconut & baking soda what does that mean? You go by weight (on the scale, by measuring the quantities) or lets say you mix 2 teaspoon of liquid VCO and 2 teaspoon of baking soda?

Please help!

Thanks!

Sandy, you are right! half and half is usually the right combination to obtain a smooth creamy toothpaste. Nevertheless, some weather conditions or even the quality of the ingredients, may require to add more or less baking soda until the results are satisfactory. Do not worry about anything, as both products are natural and harmless. I prefer to always use organic baking soda, because the normal product that you find in your regular grocery store may contain aluminum, which is not so great for you.

Good tip that aluminum may be present in regular baking soda.

Your suggestion for uses of coconut oil are appreciated, as well.

FYI oil based lubricants such as coconut oil can degrade the effectiveness of condoms
